It is widely acknowledged that since the early 2000s there has been a wave of high-quality entertainment captivating us on the small screen and collectively defined as the “golden age of television”.
The genres may vary from title to title, but one thing all these hit shows have in common is they make their audiences feel. They make people laugh until their sides hurt, get angry and yell at the screen, and in one particularly bloody wedding make viewers squeal like children so much is the emotional investment in the story and the characters.
